(LYDIA SCOTT - CO/27) Completing an Internship: 5 points

This past summer, I had the insane opportunity to intern with Blumhouse in their TV Development department from June to August! This is my second internship with a major company like this in the industry, and it’s difficult to articulate just how wonderful the experience was. Compared to my previous experience with Warner Bros. Discovery, Blumhouse is a much smaller company, which means I was privy to a lot more of the inner workings of the company, which I loved. I was not only allowed to sit in on all meetings, but also was asked to contribute and share my opinions, which was wonderful!

My tasks involved reading many scripts and books — which I never minded; I love reading! — and then writing coverage on them, which is essentially my opinion on whether the company should make the project or not. Not only was I exposed to so many different kinds of scripts, which sharpened my own ability to create, but I was also forced to improve how I articulate myself and get to the point with more accurate vocabulary, which is always a useful skill to have in filmmaking.

Finally, the internship was so cool because I got to see so many projects early! Insidious: Out Of The Further was the big movie of the summer, and I must’ve watched different cuts of it over six times — same with Other Mommy, and other projects they have coming soon! I was also riding off the success of Backrooms and Obsession, so there was such a vibrant energy in the office at all times.  I learned so much and will forever be grateful to my team at Blumhouse for teaching me so much!
