Atlanta Black Theatre Festival: Single Black Female (Participating in a performing arts group or ensemble (per year): 6 points) - Jordan Fischer

In September, I had the incredible opportunity to perform in Spelman College’s production of Single Black Female at the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival. With only one week to prepare, our cast went from not having a script to delivering a performance I was incredibly proud of. Through late-night rehearsals, collaboration, and perseverance, I learned the importance of key habits of mind, particularly adaptability, creative problem-solving, and openness to feedback. As someone who often values planning and having everything figured out, this experience challenged me to embrace uncertainty and trust both myself and my teammates. We had to adjust quickly, learn from our mistakes, and remain committed to our shared goal despite the pressure. Ultimately, I realized that growth does not always come from having a perfect plan; sometimes, it comes from being willing to step outside your comfort zone, approach challenges with an open mind, and trust yourself to figure things out along the way.
