I attended a production assistant workshop hosted by Julie Dash, where I was able to engage in a space with two people who had real experience in the film industry. Angel Cooke-Williams and Monte Battle are assistant directors that have had extensive careers in the film and TV industry spanning over a decade. They have worked on shows such as Reasonable Doubt, Loki, and more. It was truly an invaluable experience; the workshop ran from 10 am to 5 pm where we ran through set terminology, equipment demonstrations, and real-life scenarios. At the end of the experience, we were able to form mentorship opportunities with our guest speakers, which was amazing. This experience definitely made the industry feel more accessible and reinforced the fact that I should never let an opportunity slip by me.
