Receiving the SIA NY + AUC Collective Futures Full-Tuition Scholarship to attend Sotheby's Institute of Art in New York marked a defining moment in my academic journey. This opportunity not only affirms the work I’ve committed to throughout my time at Spelman College, but also reflects my ability to advocate for myself within spaces that have historically been difficult to access. What stood out most to me in this process was recognizing that my interests in contemporary Black diasporic art and art business are not only valid, but necessary within the broader art and luxury industries. This scholarship allows me to continue my studies without financial barriers, and more importantly, positions me to further explore how Black artists can be more intentionally supported, represented, and integrated within global art and luxury markets. Moving forward, I plan to use this opportunity to deepen my research and expand my work at the intersection of cultural production, strategy, and equity in the arts in New York City!
