Visiting galleries/museums: 2 points
I visited ZuCot Gallery, where I viewed a variety of contemporary artwork created by Black artists. One piece that stood out to me was a colorful portrait of a young Black child set against a vibrant floral background. The use of bold colors and expressive detail immediately drew my attention and made the piece feel both playful and powerful at the same time.
This experience pushed me to think more deeply about how art can be used to represent identity, culture, and emotion. The portrait, in particular, highlighted themes of Black childhood, innocence, and individuality in a way that felt intentional and affirming. It challenged me to consider how representation in art shapes the way people see themselves and others, especially within communities that have historically been underrepresented in mainstream spaces.
Visiting this gallery contributed to my cultural awareness by exposing me to artistic expressions that celebrate Black identity and storytelling. It also made me reflect on the importance of supporting spaces that uplift diverse voices. Moving forward, I want to be more intentional about engaging with art and cultural institutions, as they offer valuable perspectives that connect to both my academic interests and personal growth.
