Film Across Cultures: Experiencing Ghost in the Shell
Cultural Festival – 2 Points
As part of an international film festival and a requirement for my Spanish oral project, I had the opportunity to watch the Japanese animated film Ghost in the Shell. While I initially attended for an academic assignment, the experience turned out to be much more engaging than I expected.
The film explores themes of technology, identity, and the relationship between humans and machines. Even though it was created in Japan, the ideas presented in the story felt universal. It raised questions about what it means to be human in a world where technology is constantly evolving, something that feels especially relevant today.
Watching an international film also allowed me to experience storytelling from a different cultural perspective. Films from different countries often reflect unique cultural values, artistic styles, and philosophical ideas. This made the experience feel less like a typical movie viewing and more like an exploration of how different cultures interpret complex themes.
Another interesting aspect of the experience was discussing the film afterward. Hearing other students share their interpretations showed how one story can be understood in many different ways depending on a person’s background and perspective.
Overall, the international film festival expanded my appreciation for global cinema. It reminded me that film can be a powerful tool for cultural exchange and understanding, allowing audiences to connect with ideas and perspectives from around the world.
