Cultural Expansion: Attending a cultural festival or celebration (2 points) - Class of 2028

Attending the French Fest celebration of La Chandeleur and Mardi Gras was an engaging opportunity to explore French culture through food and community interaction. During the event, we learned about the traditions surrounding La Chandeleur while preparing our own crêpes. One of the most interesting aspects of the event was learning how food traditions can represent cultural history and community values. I particularly loved hearing the story of how the specific crêpe recipe we were using was handed down to our host by her grandfather in France. Preparing and sharing traditional foods helped create a welcoming environment where students could engage with cultural traditions while learning about their historical significance. This experience reinforced the importance of cultural exchange within academic communities. Engaging with different cultural traditions encourages students like myself to develop broader perspectives and appreciation for global diversity, which is valuable in both academic and professional settings. It is especially important for me to interact with various cultures since I am going into the medical field. It is important that I am well versed in various cultures so that I may be a culturally competent and well rounded physician.
