Completing an internship: 5 points

Completing my internship with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) at the Georgia State Capitol, where I worked under Representative Mekyah McQueen, was a meaningful experience that strengthened my interest in law and public service. In this role, I assisted with office responsibilities, observed legislative sessions, and gained insight into how elected officials serve their constituents on a daily basis. Being in a professional legislative environment allowed me to better understand how policies are discussed, developed, and implemented.

One of the most impactful aspects of this experience was seeing how representatives advocate for their communities, particularly Black communities within their districts. It showed me that policymaking is not just about laws, but about people, relationships, and responsibility. This challenged me to think more critically about how legal systems and public policy can be used to address inequality and create meaningful change.

This internship contributed to both my personal and academic growth by reinforcing my desire to pursue a career in law. It also helped me develop important professional skills such as communication, accountability, and adaptability in a fast-paced setting. Moving forward, I plan to build on this experience by continuing to engage in civic work and seeking opportunities that allow me to combine legal knowledge with advocacy for underrepresented communities.
