Community Engagement - Soul Sunday Wellness Club (+ 6 points) - Class of 2027

One of my biggest passions is physical movement and wellness. I became very interested in movement in high school, but I admit that my motivations were in vain and very physical. When I came to college, I bonded with my friend Kennedy over a mutual appreciation for movement. Soul Sunday began when we ran a mile around campus freshman year, and the nest week went to the Morehouse track and worked out while the sunset. We instantly knew that this was a space we wanted to invite other students to, as the peace and tranquility we felt afterwards and created an instagram page for Soul Sunday. From there, our passion for the space has continued to grow.

I would describe the mission of Soul Sunday is to create a space centered around mindfulness and movement. We do walks on the Beltline, Morehouse College Track, group yoga, hiking, and are continually expanding. We partnered with the pre-law society, the Spelman College Glee Club, the Blueprint, Outside the House, and are planning to partner with Granddaughters Club and April. These collaborations have created a forum where students in the AUC can fall in love with moving their bodies and creating community in healthy ways. Something that I am excited to do is develop a 5k training plan in the upcoming fall because so many girls have expressed their fears with running to me. As an avid lover of running, it is something that can be tackled one-mile at a time and I believe by creating a community of people who want to run a race, we can combat those fears.

By running Soul Sunday with Kennedy, I have developed greatly as a leader. I have become better at graphic design, communicating with club members, managing a social media page, reaching out to brands and companies for collaborations, and promoting a passion of mine. We were able to receive discount codes from two great smoothie shops; Playa Bowls and E+Rose, which was even more rewarding and evidence that our labor is paying off. I am excited to continue to expand and grow as a club, and to be further molded and developed as a leader.
