Ava Flanigan C/O '27 - Visiting galleries/museums (2 pts)

During Spring Break, I visited New York and went to Harlem. In Harlem, I visited the Studio Museum, which showcases work by Black artists. The artwork was beautiful, profound, and moving. It was interesting to interpret the meanings of the work, whether abstract or more direct, and to see the different exhibits within the museum.

This work in particular stood out to me as it is called “Harlem is a Myth,” and a woman is depicted as theatrically dancing with a peacock tail. There are a lot of meanings and interpretations of the work, one being that today, Harlem is no longer the Harlem from before and is simply a show of its former self.
