Attending A Theatre Performance (2 pts) – Single Black Female, Kristian Caldwell
Watching Single Black Female was a powerful and relatable experience. The play highlighted the realities of being a Black woman today, including issues like oversexualization and unequal opportunities compared to male counterparts. It reminded me a lot of everyday conversations I have with my friends at Spelman, which made the message feel even more personal and impactful.
One of the strengths of the play was how real and honest it felt. It balanced serious topics with moments that were familiar and even humorous, making it easier to connect with the message. Seeing some of my friends perform also made the experience more meaningful, as I was able to appreciate both the talent and the message being delivered. At the same time, some parts of the play could have gone deeper in explaining certain themes, but overall it was still very impactful.
This experience helped me reflect on my own identity and the shared experiences of Black women. It also inspired me to continue engaging in conversations about these issues and to be more aware of how they show up in everyday life. Moving forward, I want to support more productions like this and continue learning from spaces that uplift and empower Black voices.
