Attending professional networking events: 3 points(Neriah Carson)

 

Attending Scents of Success: Beyond the Bottle with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists was a really helpful and insightful networking experience. One of the biggest strengths of the event was how it focused on professional development, especially giving real advice on how to present yourself in interviews and in the workplace. It made the industry feel more accessible and gave me a better idea of what employers are actually looking for. One thing that could have been improved is having more time for one-on-one networking so I could build more personal connections with professionals.

This experience connects directly to my interest in cosmetic chemistry and the beauty industry. It also reinforced a pattern I’ve noticed—success in this field isn’t just about technical knowledge, but also how you carry yourself, communicate, and build relationships.

Overall, the event impacted me by making me more confident and intentional about my professional growth. Moving forward, I want to work on my interview skills, build my network, and continue attending events like this to better prepare myself for a career in the cosmetic and fragrance industry.
