Attending Honors Program events (lectures, workshops, social gatherings): 3 points

Last month, I supported and attended “Bridging the Gap: Children’s Book Drive,” organized by L.O.V.E. Letters in partnership with the Honors Program and several other AUC RSOs. As a member of the “Beautiful” Beta Iota Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., I helped table on February 24 and 26, writing letters to children encouraging literacy and decorating bookmarks. Our chapter also collected and donated about 25 books to the drive, many featuring Black protagonists or centered on impactful Black historical figures, in celebration of Black History Month. Participating in this initiative was incredibly special to me, and I feel that it was very important considering the ongoing literacy crisis in our country, as well as the widespread erasure of Black history and contributions taking place under the current presidential administration. I hope our chapter continues to work with L.O.V.E. Letters and the Honors Program in the future in planning meaningful initiatives like this one. -Nila Roper
