A Candle in the Dark Gala (Attending professional networking events) — Natalie Alexander (Class of 2029) 3 points

On Saturday, February 14, 2026 I attended the 38th annual “A Candle in the Dark” Gala and Inaugural Ball that celebrated the founding of Morehouse College as well as the inauguration of president F. Dubois Bowman. The program included a networking reception prior to the ceremony containing various guest speakers. During the program, influential Morehouse men or affiliates were honored and introduced by current Morehouse students. Many prominent figures were in attendance such as Raphael Warnock. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing from the speakers throughout the night. My favorite speaker was the most recent Rhodes Scholar from Morehouse Aniaba Jean-Baptiste N’guessan who discussed how the institution aided in his success in achieving this distinction and how he will be adequately prepared for future endeavors. As a first-year student who is still discovering the legacies of the AUC institutions, it was very uplifting and inspirational to learn of the many trailblazers within the Morehouse community. I am honored to have been given the chance to hear from Morehouse’s newest president who has a very successful track record of his own. I am looking forward to seeing Morehouse’s progression during President Bowman’s time in leadership. I greatly enjoyed getting to attend this year’s ceremony and am looking forward to the next opportunity to be in attendance.
