I traveled to the Dominican Republic and visited the Ruins of Ingenio Boca de Nigua, a site tied to the history of slavery and colonialism. It was interesting and heartbreaking to see how colonialism affected another diasporic community outside of my own. While I have Dominican friends and play aunties, we very rarely talk about, what their people have gone through, which is very different from the African American side of my identity. This experience has pushed me to potentially explore becoming a world traveler and learning as much as I can, because I realize that I do not know enough about the world we live in.
