Leadership role in an academic organization - Treasurer of Girls Who Code (3 pts) - Class of 2027 (2/13/2026)

Serving as Treasurer of the Girls Who Code Spelman College Loop has been a meaningful leadership experience that strengthened my ability to advocate, collaborate, and lead with intention. In this role, I worked closely with the executive board to plan events, manage resources, and ensure our organization could continue providing opportunities that support women pursuing technology.

One of the most impactful parts of this role was advocating for funding from the national Girls Who Code chapter. This process required clearly communicating our goals, outlining how resources would be used, and demonstrating accountability for the programs we planned to deliver. Successfully securing full organizational support reinforced the importance of strategic communication and thoughtful planning in leadership, especially when working within larger institutions.

Beyond funding, collaborating with the E-board to design and execute events allowed me to contribute to creating spaces where women in tech feel supported, represented, and encouraged. Being part of these conversations helped me see how leadership operates behind the scenes and how intentional decision-making can directly shape student experiences.

This role has shown me that leadership is not just about visibility, but about responsibility and follow-through. Serving as Treasurer reaffirmed my commitment to building inclusive communities in tech and using leadership as a tool to create access and opportunity for others. I look forward to continuing to grow in roles that allow me to support collective goals while strengthening my own leadership skills.
