Developing Scholarship Applications and Essays (4 Points)
Using the website Scholarship360, I was able to locate a number of scholarships that would help alleviate the cost of my tuition. I applied for the Scholar Dollars Essay Scholarship for Black Students. For a $1,000 scholarship, I simply had to write an essay about the most inspiring figure in my education or personal journey.
I decided to write about my grandmother, Jacquelyn Coleman. She has been one of the most inspiring and motivating people in my life. Despite having a tough childhood, she still thrived. Graduated as salutatorian of her high school class and, after that, graduated from Savannah State University in only three years with a degree in chemistry. However, that was only the beginning. She went on to meet her husband, and they had two kids together, one of them being my mom. While raising a family, she worked as a chemist at Anheuser-Busch and patented her own product while she was an employee. However, my grandma remains humble and claims that her greatest accomplishment has been becoming a grandmother to her ten grandchildren. Her work ethic and drive have pushed me to become the woman I am today. One of the main reasons I push myself every day is because of her. One of my favorite memories is her supporting me at my high school graduation. There is a video of me walking down the aisle to my seat, and the only thing you can hear in the background is her saying, "Go Li!"
