Christian Scott- Winning a local scholarship or award (4 pts)

Winning the HBCU scholarship from The Links, Incorporated (Dogwood Chapter) really meant a lot to me. It felt good to be recognized not just for showing up, but for how I show up. I put a lot of intention into being present, participating fully, and reflecting on what I’m learning in ways that actually connect to my life and goals. As a first-generation college student who cares deeply about community, service, and becoming a culturally competent physician, this scholarship felt like reassurance that I’m on the right path and that the work I’m doing matters.

Meeting members of the Dogwood Chapter in person made the experience even more special. Being able to receive the scholarship, sit down for dinner, and connect with my peers was honestly such a full-circle moment. It felt less like an award and more like being welcomed into a community that genuinely wants to see us succeed. Knowing that we’ll be presented at one of their meetings next month makes me excited to continue building that connection. This experience reminded me that support, encouragement, and shared purpose can go a long way, and I’m really grateful to be part of something bigger than myself.
