Winning a scholarship or award (8 points) – Parker Buchanan ℅ ‘27
In the year prior I was awarded the CFMT Scholarship and I was just approved for renewal for the 2026 school year! The CFMT Scholarship is awarded to students in the Middle Tennessee area and recognizes their commitment to higher education and career-interests. In renewing this scholarship, I was tasked with updating my career goals, in which I stated, “After completing my college journey, I would like to pursue a career in finance with a specific focus on wealth management and financial advising. I aspire to work with a diverse range of clients, including large companies, individuals, and families, helping them build and preserve the wealth they have acquired or are in the process of acquiring. Being at Spelman has inspired me to work particularly to impact communities that lack access to financial guidance, and I want to use the skills that I will learn in this field to help them. In advising clients, I would not only want to help them understand investment strategies, but I also want to build interpersonal relationships with them that allow them to know me as not only a businesswoman, but a person, because I think this will build a level of trust that helps them make sound financial decisions.” I thoroughly enjoyed reflecting on and updating my they have broadened since completing career goals, a my 2025 Summer Internship.
