Winning a local scholarship or award +4 (Kathya Lavado-Arrington, Class of 2028)
During my freshman year, I had the amazing opportunity to join the Spelman College Student Ambassador program. From giving tours to families, parents, and tour groups to also catering to the Spelman community, I have a newfound family at Spelman College.
The student ambassador also operates on a point system during the semester. To remain in the program, we are required to have at least 10 points; however, if we go above and beyond, we transition into golden ambassador status. With a combination of my passion and attentiveness for the program, as I joined VIP tours and completed extra shifts on event days such as Spelbound, I was able to accumulate 21 points, which brought me to golden ambassador status.
At the beginning of the 2025 spring semester, the ambassador program held a back-to-school fall refresher. During this refresher, the main goal was to get back into the mindset of being a leader, both in an ambassador and academic aspect. This expanded my idea of being an ambassador and led me to recognize that being an ambassador is more than giving tours, but also being able to uphold the name of Spelman College. This fall refresher helped contribute to my personal growth because it allowed me to see what traits that I had that got me to fulfill the role of a golden ambassador. My strengths, such as being authentic and communicative, have served me well in my position, and I learned that the program has also helped me sharpen these skills. I can further use these skills outside the ambassador program, bringing my true self to every space I am in, whether it is academic or social, and overall making sure that I represent myself well and continue to exceed expectations when performing tasks that I am assigned.
