Through The Gates: Chloe Billingslea (2-3 points)

Through The Gates was a wonderful program that helped me process the transition in becoming a full time student of Spelman. It was a great atmosphere returning to campus before my first semester and seeing a few familiar faces. During the program we discussed many topics, to name a few, how to be prepared and college ready, the historical significance behind the choice of choosing an HBCU, and how to navigate your new life as a student once on campus. Through the sessions I not only gained valuable insight for what I can expect from campus, but also what the expectations are that come with calling yourself a Spelman student. The guidance from the faculty staff and upperclassmen helped me to process and put my mind at ease to many of the natural uncertainties that come with a new life changing experience. The practical tools and advice given to help balance academics, personal growth, and campus involvement, from multiple perspectives were very helpful. Through The Gates strengthened my confidence and my preparation to begin my Spelman journey. The program also further grew my sense of belonging in the Spelman community.
