Presenting a Poster at a Conference - Class of 2027 (+6 Points)
I presented my research at ABRCMS in San Antonio, Texas in November, where I was able to present and be judged on the research project I did over the summer at the University of Utah. This was my first research conference, and I was filled with nerves when imagining presenting research I conducted months ago. However, the presentation went better than I expected. I spoke very confidently, answered the judges' questions creatively when I was not exactly sure of the answer, and explained the content very well. This conference is just the beginning of my goal to continue to grow as a public speaker and scientist, and has encouraged me to apply to present my research in other settings.
San Antonio was also enriching as I had never visited this city, and spent time outside of the conference exploring the city by taking the riverwalk and hop-on-hop-off bus. San Antonio had an extremely historic feeling, with many reminders of the Alamo and the Spanish-American war. There was also a very large Mexican-American influence in the city, making a large part of its design and popular cuisine. There were also several students from Spelman presenting at the conference, and it was great to walk around and hear their presentations.
