Obtaining a Professional Certification (6 points) - Olivia Liddie

Studying abroad has continued to be one of my most consistent aspirations while at Spelman College. This semester I work tirelessly to make it a reality. To prepare for study abroad, Dr Karen Klay provided us with the opportunity to learn more how being a Black women impacts living and studying abroad.

Through her program, over a few weeks, we learn, read and studied about the impacts of intersectionality can alter how Black American women are perceived internationally and the potential benefits and drawbacks of our identity. Throughout the process, I gained a new understanding for my Blackness as well as an appreciation for my community at Spelman. I am beyond grateful for the mentorship of Dr Klay as we prepped for this journey, and after receiving my certification of Navigating Race & Racism Abroad, I feel more confident about my own abilities as I embark on a new journey.
