Nyabinghi Irving-How we got on: Attending performances (theater, musical, concerts, opera, dance): 2 points

How we got on was a really entertaining play, and I honestly wasn’t able to think of a lot of issues with the production. I think my favorite part of the production is probably how they had the white sheets come down from the ceiling as the “fathers” spoke to each kid, and the lighting being different whenever all three of them were on the stage rapping together. It really kind of brought light to the way that each kid had their own struggles that prevented them from rapping, but they continued on. As far as I could see, there was no issue with the production, and everything went smoothly. The themes I could see were teen rebellion, hard work, etc. My favorite scenes in the play were when they were demonstrating how the DJ equipment worked and had the actors acting as if they were tracks being manipulated. It was really fun, and the beats were really good. The actors were very good at continuing to repeat their lines to the beat. I think the play could be very relevant to people who are being pushed by their parents into a career they might not want, like Hank, or have irresponsible parents like Julian. It really shows the struggle that some kids go through that they have to work through in order to reach their goals. As someone with a dad similar to Julian, I really resonated with having to take care of him sometimes or being held back by him. I would definitely recommend this play to others. I really enjoyed it, and it was really interactive, not dragging at all. The only grievance I have is that I expected more from the ending, but the visuals and interaction made up for it. The characters dancing with the crowd were a really enjoyable component of the play, even if I felt a little unsatisfied with the end.
