Nicole Reid - Undergraduate research paper (6 Points)
For my Choreography Lives course last semester, I conducted a research paper on passed down cultural identity through dance. My project was called "It's in us, not on us" because I talked about the way Black people inherit and embody history through our bodies. Many of our traditions from our culture can't be read through a book, so we pass many things down verbally. Many dance moves are already in our body, and the way we hear and interpret music is different from many other races and cultures. This project contributed to my academic development by challenging me to think about this project beyond my experience with dance. I was able to turn multiple, complex thoughts into a well-thought out assignment. I can apply what I learned from this activity to a real-world situation by reflecting on our passed down history and embracing everything that comes with it.
