Nia Gooden - Developing scholarship applications and essays (4-5 points)
After researching scholarships, I found one that I was eager to apply to one called the Arnetha V. Bishop memorial scholarship. Completing the scholarship also gave me a chance to reflect on my career aspirations as a psychology major intending to have a career in counseling and therapy. The prompt was, “Tell us about yourself and how you plan to make a positive impact within marginalized communities through the mental health service you provide. How has your experience with mental health influenced your beliefs, activism, and career aspirations? I was deeply inspired by this prompt and began writing with passion. I was able to refine my scholarship application skills while also practicing the crucial skill Dr. Hite introduced us to FYE: the skill of telling your personal story in a way that is enticing and moving to depict yourself as the valuable candidate you are. I was also able to familiarize myself with the Bold.org scholarship interface so I will know how to use it next time I apply for a scholarship from there. I am patiently awaiting the scholarship results!
