Developing a professional mentor relationship: 4-6 points - Niya Neblett
I have been intentionally developing a professional mentor relationship with a Spelman alumna who works in my desired field. After initially meeting her through a job shadowing program during my sophomore year of high school, I reconnected with her last year as I began my journey at Spelman College. Since then, we have met several times, allowing our relationship to evolve from a one-time connection into a meaningful mentorship. She has provided valuable insight on internship opportunities, career navigation, and professional growth, particularly the context of navigating the corporate world as a Black woman. Through our conversations, I have gained a clearer understanding of industry expectations, workplace dynamics, and the importance of advocating for oneself while remaining grounded in community and purpose.
