Developing a Professional Mentor Relationship (3 pts) - Class of 2027
Developing a professional mentor relationship with Mengdi, my manager during my summer internship at Meta, has been a profoundly impactful part of my academic and professional journey. Even after the internship ended, we have remained in close contact despite being geographically distant. She continues to offer guidance, share advice, and support me through application processes and professional decision-making, reinforcing the value of sustained mentorship beyond a single experience.
What has made this relationship especially meaningful is the way it extends beyond technical growth. Mengdi has helped me think more strategically about my career path, leadership development, and long-term goals, often encouraging me to reflect on both my strengths and areas for growth. This mentorship has complemented what I learn in the classroom by providing real-world perspective, accountability, and encouragement rooted in lived industry experience.
Maintaining this connection has shown me that mentorship is built through trust, intentional communication, and mutual investment. It has influenced how I approach professional relationships and reinforced my desire to both seek guidance and eventually serve as a mentor to others. Moving forward, I plan to continue nurturing this relationship while modeling the same level of support and intentionality in my own leadership and mentoring roles.
