Chandler Warden - Networking: developing a professional mentor relationship: Dr. Zerita (4-6 points), Class of 2027

I am immensely grateful that Dr. Zerita Buchanan became my mentor through her willingness to guide, support, and invest in my growth as a future dentist. As a Spelman College alumna from the Class of 2010 and the owner of her own dental practice, she represents the path I aspire to follow. She welcomed me into her practice, allowing me to shadow her and participate in her Increasing Diversity in Dentistry program, which reinforced the importance of representation in oral health care. Through her mentorship, I have gained hands-on experience, observed professional excellence, and learned how to balance clinical skill with compassionate patient care. Her continued guidance during my dental school application cycle has been invaluable. Dr. Buchanan’s mentorship has strengthened my confidence, clarified my goals, and affirmed my commitment to increasing equity and diversity within the field of dentistry.
