Attending a general interest conference or workshop: (2-3 points)
Learning about the newly established Walmart School of Medicine challenged many of my assumptions about traditional medical education. Despite being a brand-new MD program, it places a surprising emphasis on holistic and community-centered care. Speaking with the lovely ambassador helped me understand the school’s mission, structure, and the fact that its very first class will graduate this year marking an important milestone in its development. This experience strengthened my Imaginative Risk, reminding me that innovation in medicine often begins with institutions willing to challenge convention as the MD school is straying more into the DO ideology of holistic care. It also supported my Dialogic Thinking, as the conversation gave me space to ask questions and reconsider preconceived notions about newer programs. What impressed me most was the program’s commitment to underserved populations. Their clear alignment with the future direction I wish to take with healthcare was extremely encouraging.
