Averi Rodriguez (Class of 2028): Leadership Role in an Academic Organization - FBLS Co-Correspondence Director (3 points)
Serving as Co-Correspondence Director for Future Business Leaders of Spelman has been a formative leadership experience that strengthened my understanding of strategic communication, professionalism, and organizational impact. In this role, I oversee internal and external correspondence with corporate partners, alumni, speakers, and collaborators, ensuring that all messaging is timely, intentional, and aligned with the organization’s mission and values. Managing these communications has challenged me to think critically about how tone, clarity, and follow-through directly influence credibility, relationship-building, and the overall success of FBLS programming.
Through this position, I have significantly developed my written communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to operate confidently in high-stakes professional environments. Adapting communication styles for diverse audiences has strengthened my judgment and professionalism, while managing multiple timelines has reinforced the importance of organization and accountability. Serving as a primary representative of FBLS has also increased my confidence and sense of responsibility, as each interaction reflects the organization’s reputation and long-term goals. I now apply these skills by approaching leadership and professional communication with greater strategy and intention—prioritizing clarity, consistency, and alignment with broader objectives—preparing me for future roles where effective communication and stakeholder management are essential to impactful leadership.
