“Blues for an Alabama Sky” was a very powerful performance by our Spelman and Morehouse peers. I love how they portrayed the essence of life in the time of the Harlem Renaissance and really showcased the complex nature of the life of a Black person during this time. I think the play had many overlapping themes spanning from the power of love, not giving up on your dreams, discernment in relationships and so much more. One thing that I admired the most was the cast's ability to fully step into their roles and take on such diverse characters with so much might, till this day I see the characters that were in the show and still remember how they made me feel within each scene, and that type of impact really shows the talent that they have. One thing that sat with me was the connection between the dreams and ambitions that we have, but sometimes feeling the need to put them on the back burner to accommodate to the structural limitations placed on us, we see this in many black women and men. I attended this show in support of my dear friend Kendall, but left feeling filled with so much admiration and appreciation for the storytelling that this play had. I enjoyed seeing at the end of the show that dreams became a reality and that you can chase them for as long as you so choose!
