Attending a Performance: MJ the Musical(2 Points)-Jordan Benjamin
On January 9th, I attended a performance of MJ the Musical based on the life of Michael Jackson. This show, which took place at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City, was an immersive experience. The story highlights Jackson’s preparations for his “Dangerous” Tour while also highlighting influences in his life, like his childhood, that shaped him into the person he became. One example of this was through Jackson’s burn incident, which would eventually lead to his history with substance abuse. Overall, paired with hit songs of Jackson’s like “Human Nature,” “Bad,” and “Thriller,” this was a spectacular performance filled with amazing vocals and dancing. The show also highlights topics like racism and the additional work that African Americans have to endure to achieve the same accolades as their peers. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves the arts.
