Attending a Performance: Buena Vista Social Club(2 Points)-Jordan Benjamin

On January 11th, I attended a performance of Buena Vista Social Club at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. This performance was vibrant, vivacious, and truly one of the best shows I have seen on Broadway. The show encompasses the story of a young producer attempting to reassemble a group of Cuban musicians to create a record of classic Cuban hits. Throughout the show, we meet characters like Omara, Ibrahim, Compay, and Ruben, and watch how their lives and relationships are influenced. The main influence in this show is that of the Cuban Revolution, with Omara having to decide whether to flee Cuba for the U.S. or to stay. This performance features live music, powerhouse voices, vivid dancing, and emotional acting. It addresses concepts like colorism, classism, and nationalism. If anyone has the chance to see this show, I would 1000% recommend it and truly believe it may be one of the best on Broadway currently.
