Attending a general interest conference or workshop: President’s State of the College Address (3 points)
On November 5th, I attended President Brewer’s State of the College Address. During the talk, she addressed a plethora of student concerns: scholarship funding, future renovations, how they plan to implement AI, and so many other topics. I really enjoy activities like this, where constituents are able to converse with those in power and express their concerns. President Brewer was also very open to listening, so hearing her validate each student’s concern was gratifying. Overall, her main concern was making our campus more technologically advanced to be on par with other top schools. While our campus holds much beauty, it is apparent in the technology and architecture that some renovations need to be done. The delay in renovations may be due to a disparity in federal funding in comparison to other top Georgia institutions. While this feels disparaging at times, President Brewer has expressed a strong interest in reworking the budget to accommodate future renovation plans and a technological rework, which gives me hope. I hope our future president will hold those same values and continue to advance the Spelman infrastructure.
