Academic Enrichment: Attending Honors Program Event, volunteering (3 points) - Class of 2028
Participating in the Project Comfort: King Day Edition Care Package Drive, hosted by the Honors Program, allowed me to engage in meaningful service while reflecting on the values of collective responsibility and care emphasized by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event centered on assembling care packages containing essential hygiene items, water, and daily necessities to support individuals in need, reinforcing the importance of service as an active and intentional practice.
One of the most impactful aspects of this experience was working alongside other Honors students in a shared space dedicated to giving back. The process of assembling care packages may seem simple, but it required coordination, communication, and collective effort to ensure each package was thoughtfully prepared. Being surrounded by peers who were equally committed to service highlighted how small, intentional actions can have a meaningful impact when carried out together.
From a reflective standpoint, this experience encouraged me to think more deeply about service beyond symbolic gestures. Participating on Martin Luther King Jr. Day reinforced the idea that honoring his legacy involves action, specifically, showing up for communities through care, empathy, and responsibility. Moving forward, I plan to continue engaging in service opportunities that align with my academic interests in health equity and community care. This experience reaffirmed my understanding that being an Honors student carries both academic and social responsibility, and that meaningful change begins with intentional, collective action.
