Presenting at a career-related workshop or conference (5 pts) -- Kai Washington (Class of 2028)

I had the amazing opportunity to present the neurobiology work I completed during my internship over the summer at R25 Sleep Summer School with the University of Colorado Boulder to multiple established professionals in the field of sleep and chronobiology. I was able to explain the results that we gathered surrounding the visualization of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells using glyoxal fixation. Being my first professional presentation, this experience challenged me to maintain clear and confident presentation skills under pressure. Beyond developing these skills, presenting my work helped me to realize the importance of effectively communicating complex scientific ideas and reinforced my confidence in my ability to contribute meaningfully to academic research spaces. Although presenting in front of established neurobiology professionals was initially intimidating, overcoming this challenge has strengthened my confidence and affirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in neuroscience.
