Nia Gooden - Attending Honors Program Events (1-2 points) - Class of 2029

I was lucky enough to attend the Honors Holiday party this semester! There were a lot of relaxing and festive activities that allowed the honors students to decompress and reconnect before finals week. The event featured delicious food, desserts, and a hot chocolate bar. I took plenty of food and got some hot chocolate as well. I was able to express my creativity by making a cute pouch and a Rudolph cookie to be entered into the cookie making competition. This event also allowed me to speak to some of my honors sisters who I have not yet connected with. I also was able to appreciate the fun of the soul train conducted by the HPSA board! Seeing them enjoy themselves despite the responsibility that it definitely takes to be an HPSA board member inspired me to consider applying for a board position in the future to serve my honors sisters. While I enjoyed the activities, I also found them artistically stimulating, seeing as the nature of the competition caused many of the young women to work hard to make beautiful and intricate ornaments. What I took away from this event was the importance of being able to socialize and make conversation while focusing on the task at hand. In the future, I see myself applying this skill when I need to eat or write in professional settings while also engaging with a peer. Finally, the holiday party gave the freshmen an opportunity to compare their experiences with the ADW 111 artistic project.
