Chelseaparis Henry- General museum visit and reflection (2PTS)

(These pictures showcase my favorite museum pieces from this semester's collection.)

Throughout this semester, I have had the opportunity to volunteer at the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum on Wednesdays and Fridays. This season's art museum exhibit was Ancestral Mirror by Shanequa Gay. Her pieces were so beautifully detailed and included various textures and colors. All of these details were significant in portraying the story and theme of spiritual connectivity and blackness. This volunteering experience allowed me to connect with a CAU student named Tee, who was quite energetic and outgoing. Fostering a connection with her inspired me to be more knowledgeable about the different events that happen on Clark's campus. I also connected with Shyheim Williams, the Digital Humanities Manager. Shyheim is also a Morehouse College Alumnus, a former Morehouse College professor, and a current CAU graduate student.

This volunteering experience was quite different from my usual volunteering events, which usually cater to food studies, housing insecurity, or childhood education. However, volunteering for the CAU Art Museum required me to greet guests, provide guests with gallery rules and protocols, answer questions/provide information about the current exhibit, and monitor the gallery space. This volunteering role reminded me of a work study job. Because of this enriching experience, I plan on volunteering for the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum next semester as well.
