Ca'Miyah King '27- Winning a national scholarship or domestic award: 8 points

Winning the Gilman Scholarship represents a significant academic and personal achievement in my educational journey. As a nationally competitive award designed to expand access to global learning for students of limited financial means, the Gilman Scholarship affirms both my academic commitment and my dedication to using international education as a tool for equity and social mobility. The application process required deep self-reflection, clarity of purpose, and the ability to articulate how studying abroad aligns with my academic goals and long-term aspirations in law and public service.

Receiving this scholarship not only made my study abroad experience in Barcelona financially possible, but also reinforced the importance of representation and access within global education spaces. As a first-generation college student and a Black woman, this recognition validated my belief that students from historically underrepresented backgrounds deserve and belong in international academic environments. The Gilman Scholarship has strengthened my resolve to use the knowledge and global perspective gained abroad to advocate for inclusive policies, equitable legal systems, and expanded opportunities for others who share similar backgrounds. This award has had a lasting impact on my academic confidence, leadership development, and commitment to creating systemic change through informed global engagement.
