Attending a career-related workshop or seminar: Alice Walton School of Medicine Lunch and Learn (2-3 points)
On November 6th, I attended the Alice Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) Lunch and Learn held by the Health Careers Program. AWSOM is a medical school that opened up last year and has its first cohort of students currently going through this year. The school emphasizes its focus on the mental health and happiness of its students. They provide a lot of avenues to decompress, such as a gym and a communal garden. Everything about the school seems perfect for medical school, but then I started to consider how new the school is. It would be a risk to take on a completely new school, as they may run into issues. When originally planning for medical school, I wanted to go to a prestigious school that would give me a good education and be widely recognized by employers. Attending AWSOM would mean that it is not widely recognized, but I could have a great medical experience, and the school could grow to be fantastic. This experience caused me to really consider my values and what is necessary for me in medical school. I will definitely highly consider AWSOM, because while it may not be the best fit for everyone, it surely is a great fit for me.
