Attending performances: An Evening with Faye Webster and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (2-3 points)

On October 30th, I attended An Evening with Faye Webster and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. I enjoy Faye Webster’s music, but hearing it backed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) was truly an elevating experience. I have played the flute for over 7 years and have participated in many classical ensembles, so hearing the ASO's perfection was inspiring. Each time I would hear the flute banter with Faye Webster’s voice, I got chills. While I play the flute simply as a hobby, experiences like this remind me that it could be a profession for me. Playing the flute only ever brings me joy, and while it may be challenging, it never causes bad stress. I may consider professionally playing the flute after I retire from being a doctor. This experience also inspired my playing with the Spelman Chamber Players. In the past, I have been in typical band settings that do not include strings. Joining Spelman Chamber Players was the most I have ever played with string players. Hearing the flute player interact with the strings in the performance was enlightening about how such instruments should be balanced. This was the first professional concert I have been to with classical elements, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.
