Winning a local scholarship (4 points)
In a previous blog post I shared my experience with finding and drafting the essay for the 2025 James "Jim" Bell Scholarship. My scholarship essay comprised of me responding to a prompt outlining what I three actions I would take as the POTUS. Though the essay is available to view on the blog post, I focused on the issues of quality of life (increasing national minimum wage, access to affordable housing, EBT, and SNAP benefits), reinstating the Department of Education and establishing education standards that promote diversity and cultural competency, and addressing the healthcare crisis by establishing universal healthcare. I aimed to focus on some of the institutions and livelihood that have been under attack by this administration. The scholarship review board got back to me after a few weeks to inform me that I have won one of the five $2,000 scholarships that the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) provided. This scholarship will go towards either my tuition at Spelman or a study abroad opportunity.
