Volunteered at Urban Recipe (Class of 2028)

This September, I had the opportunity to volunteer with Urban Recipe through the Honors Program. Through this community engagement, I learned more about Urban Recipe's Initiative to minimize food insecurity in the Metro Atlanta area. During this service, I helped construct boxes, organize produce, and assemble a new batch of donations ready to distribute. I deepened my understanding of the reach of food banks like Urban Recipe. There are plenty of housed individuals in need of food, and Urban Recipe sees them as their target audience. It's important to understand that food insecurity and homelessness do not always come as a pair. Food insecurity is a very real issue with a variety of lenses to consider.
I look forward to more opportunities to volunteer with Urban Recipe! It was amazing to see the power and ability to effectively communicate within this small group during service.
