USHA Induction Ceremony at Morehouse School of Medicine
For the next two years, I will be a part of the Undergraduate Health Sciences Academy at Morehouse School of Medicine. The ceremony marked the official start of a journey dedicated to preparing future health professionals for excellence, leadership, and service. As a new inductee, I joined a community of students committed to addressing health disparities and promoting equity in medicine. What made the day even more special was being elected as the Secretary of our new cohort and this role that allows me to serve, organize, and represent my peers as we move forward together.
The induction event was both inspiring and informative. Hearing from faculty, alumni, and current medical students gave me a clear sense of the program’s purpose and the impact it has on developing compassionate healthcare leaders. One of the biggest strengths of UHSA is the wide range of opportunities it offers: mentorship, stipends, scholarships, and exposure to medical research and professional development. The ceremony itself was filled with a sense of belonging from the start. If there was any area for improvement, it might be creating more time for personal introductions or networking among cohort members after the formal program. With so many talented and driven students in one room, I would have loved more chances to connect one-on-one and begin forming bonds early. Still, I truly enjoyed this event and look forward to the future.
This induction represented more than just joining a program—it symbolized a new chapter in my academic and professional growth. UHSA aligns perfectly with my goals in medicine and health equity, offering both structure and support as I prepare for the next stages of my journey. The emphasis on mentorship and leadership resonated deeply with me, especially as I step into my new role as secretary. I’ve learned from past leadership experiences that organization, communication, and collaboration are key to a strong team, and I’m excited to bring those strengths into this new setting. The event also reminded me how important it is to stay grounded in purpose. Hearing the speakers share how UHSA helped shape their paths reinforced my belief that medicine is not only a science, but also a calling rooted in service, empathy, and community.
