UHSA Induction Ceremony: A Milestone to Medicine
On September 17th, 2025 I had the honor and privilege of being inducted into the
Undergraduate Health Sciences Academy (UHSA) at Morehouse School of Medicine.
This event marked a very special point in my journey in becoming an OB/GYN by
receiving my first white coat. Being inducted into UHSA showed me that the work
I've put in over the years has not gone unnoticed and further fuels me to
continue along the path to achieving my dreams.
UHSA's mission is to develop
students who are committed to advancing health equity. Standing amongst other
black leaders on their pursuit to medicine in the program made me hopeful and
excited about the future of medicine.
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Ngozi Anachebe, a
Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, implanted many seeds of
inspiration throughout her speech. One quote that particularly stood out to me
was: "Excellence is the only objective. Mediocrity is intolerable, and excuses
are simply unacceptable."
As I reflected on this quote, I realized how much
Spelman has prepared me to embrace this opportunity. The Honors Program's Habits
of Mind have guided my growth indirectly and directly along my path to
leadership, service, and learning. As I step into the field of medicine and
public health, ethical reasoning and decision-making becomes essential. My
impact on communities will last a lifetime and it's imperative that these
decisions are made with intention and care.
