Traveling to culturally significant locations - 6 - Kennedi Munson

During fall break, my friend group and I traveled to the culturally significant location of Berlin where we saw the My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love. Painted in 1990 by Dmitri Wrubel, the painting is one of the most renowned pieces on the Berlin (graffiti) Wall where is depicts Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker in a socialist fraternal kiss, reproducing a photograph taken in 1979 during the 30th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the German Democratic Republic. Being a third-culture child who has lived abroad for a long duration of my life, traveling to Berlin to visit one of my close friends was such a blessing and being able to immerse myself in a culture different from my own was equally a blessing. Being able to explore this environment alongside three of my Spelman sisters was another layer of enjoyment to this experience as it promoted us to engage in meaningful dialogues regarding Berlin and reflect on our time in environments like Spelman College. I am grateful for the experience to travel and see the world alongside people I love, and am excited to continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
