The Acquisition of Knowledge through a Library Card: Academic Enrichment: Jordan Benjamin Class of 2029(1 Point)
For my first activity, I ventured to the AUC Woodruff Library on the campus of Clark Atlanta University to acquire my library card. I took this walk along with my roommate in September. While at the library, we both took time to explore the floors of the library and see how the layout was set up. It was insightful to see the different spaces that had been curated for not only a wide range of studies and interests but also for different ways of learning and studying. Following our explorations, we went to the front desk, where one of the workers was able to assist us in obtaining our library cards.
I believe the main theme of this activity is taking the first step in a journey of knowledge acquisition. One common theme we have been discussing in FYE and English is the power of words written down. While the recording of resources online is incredibly common and convenient now, with the current attempts to change history, written books are a more valuable resource than ever. I enjoyed the activity, and while I did not find it necessarily challenging, I found it incredibly interesting. I greatly enjoyed exploring the library and seeing all the spaces and resources it had specifically for the progression of minority and, specifically, Black communities. During exam week, I visited the library to study in one of the study rooms and found the space to be incredibly productive for me. One aspect I also enjoyed was the artwork that can be found on the walls of the library, with many featuring African American and minority subjects. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my trip to the AUC Woodruff Library and can not wait to go back.
