Summer Intern at GCI Healthcare - Class of 2026
This past summer, I had the privilege of interning with GCI Healthcare, where I supported ViiV Healthcare’s HIV and AIDS initiatives. The experience was both challenging and deeply rewarding, allowing me to see firsthand how public health strategies are implemented to address critical healthcare disparities. I was able to contribute to meaningful projects aimed at increasing awareness, improving patient outcomes, and supporting communities disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS.
A major highlight of my internship was my capstone project, which focused on developing and delivering a business pitch to bring an existing European campaign for Venetoclax to the U.S. market. The project required extensive research on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) patient needs, U.S. market trends, and stakeholder engagement strategies. I successfully engaged six key stakeholders and designed three innovative outreach tactics that emphasized community engagement and collaboration between healthcare providers, patient advocacy groups, and other stakeholders. As a Health Science major who is also well-versed in the realm of public relations, this project allowed me to blend both of my passions by applying scientific knowledge while strategically communicating to diverse audiences. The work was not without challenges, from navigating complex healthcare regulations to ensuring that messaging resonated with multiple stakeholders, but these difficulties strengthened my problem-solving and professional skills.
Reflecting on my experience, I realize how invaluable it is to contribute to such meaningful work while learning from professionals dedicated to health equity. My internship strengthened my passion for addressing healthcare disparities and reaffirmed my commitment to serving underserved communities. As I continue my journey to become a physician, this experience and my capstone project have reinforced the importance of combining clinical knowledge, strategic thinking, and community-centered approaches to create real, tangible improvements in patients’ lives.
