State Farm Arena Million Meal Pack Community Service +3 (Kathya Lavado-Arrington, Class of 2028)
On Saturday, September 27th, my honors and Bonner sisters and I took the opportunity to participate in Saturday service at the yearly State Farm Arena Million Meal Pack Community Service event. This event brought thousands of people from Georgia to come together and set a goal of packing one million meals for families in need of help.
As a Bonner scholar, I am a woman who takes pride in being rooted in the service I accomplish, so I was highly excited for this chance to simultaneously bond with my sisters and help those who are experiencing food insecurity, especially since I have been highly involved in the food bank community since I was in high school. This day consisted of various times where my sisters and I had to work together to get the end result that we wanted. Even though we faced many obstacles, such as the arena filling up, we kept each other grounded and reminded each other of what we were here for, which was helping others. Once we finally began to pack meals, we were rewarded with the knowledge that we were addressing the issue of hunger in the Atlanta community.
Overall, as I continue to participate in community service events, it reminds me of my love for servant leadership in the Spelman community, especially as I am surrounded by other amazing women who strive to help our community as well.
